Extract
from geological report on the Ardleigh Sand
The round-grained
nature of the Ardleigh Sand, with its consequently high porosity
and permeability, is a special feature which renders it ideal
as a filtration medium.
As far as
is known, the combination of sphericity, cleanliness (freedom
from coatings of clay, iron oxides, calcite, cement, etc),
smooth texture and range of grain size, is unique to the Ardleigh
Sands. It is certainly unique in Southern England.
