Industrial Sands

Bucbricks’ product range enables our sands and grits to have many uses – especially in the industrial sector where quality and regularity of supply are vital.

Water Filtration: Bucbricks’ products are widely used in both water filtration and purification. The round grain nature of the Ardleigh Sands, mineralogical composition and high silica content makes it ideal as a filter media, especially for portable water filters. Many of the UK’s top water companies are Bucbricks’ customers. It is used by Water Authorities and by manufacturers of specialist filtration equipment for use on board ships etc. The company also supplied sand to water companies and authorities in Portugal, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Russia and the Falklands Islands.

Water Abstraction: In further links with the British Armed Forces, Bucbricks sands – due to their grading and grain shape – are used by the Royal Engineers to provide filters for newly sunk bore holes to abstract water in military areas. The Royal Engineers are NATO’s only specialist well-drilling unit.

Boreholes: Our graded dried sands 1-2mm (8/16) 1.7/4mm (4/10) and 3-6mm are used in boreholes throughout the UK and are regularly exported to the third world by our customers.

Environmental Monitoring: Increasingly stringent regulations concerning the operation of filling stations have seen Bucbricks sands being used as a monitoring agent to prevent oil contamination of both land and water and as a filtration medium for borehole monitoring. Sands can be tailored to meet local requirements.

Horticulture: Ardleigh sands, with their excellent grain roundness – are ideal for use in drainage composts. The sands and grits produced are added to soil and compost to make an ideal growing media. The 1.7/4 (4/10) is used specifically by nurseries and individuals for growing Bonzai trees. Not only does Bucbricks supply the horticultural sector, but it also delivers to some of the UK’s best-known stately homes.

Resin Bonded Surfaces: The amber colour of the Ardleigh Sands 1.7/4 (4/10) makes it a very sort after product for resin bonded decorative surfaces, i.e. paths and driveways, throughout the UK. An example of this can be found at Kensington Palace where the paths for the Princess Diana Memorial Gardens were laid using this method and our 1.7/4 (4/10) grade sand.

Industrial uses: Fillers in high-grade plasters for squash courts.
